In Kaduna 72% adolescent girls infected with HIV/AIDS don't know their status
About 72 percent of HIV/AIDS
infected adolescents in Kaduna State are young girls who don't know that they
are carrying the virus, a Non-Governmental Organisation has said.
To this end, the group said it
will train about 60 young girls carrying the virus who will in turn champion
the activities of a project, "Big Sis Lock Down the Virus."
Speaking on Friday, June 10,
2016, the State Coordinator of Association of Young Persons Living with
HIV/AIDS, Sunday Aaron, said the training of the infected young girls was to
curtail further transmission.
"We will train 60 young
girls who are infected so that we can send them to facilities close to them to
access treatment," Sunday said.
He said the project will be
carried out in Jema'a and Jaba Local
Government Areas where the prevalence rate are
high.
"We choose these
communities so that our support groups can partner with us by mobilising the
people," Sunday said adding that the project, "The Big Sis: Lock down
the virus for the prevention of new infection," and end the scourge by
2030."
